A Day In The Life Of The Oblivious Ape

Wha...is that ME???
So Hazim sent me this link to a website one day...harks back to our days in Secondary 3.

It was a Statistical Poster Competition our E-Maths teacher signed the whole class up for; my group, consisting of Me, Zul, Hazim and Farhan came up tops in class and we were selected to compete against the posters of other schools around Singapore.

We ended up as an Honourable Mention. Pfft.

So the link was to the pictures taken at the 'event'...The reason for the inverted commas is because the number of people present there didn't go past 50, and they weren't the World's 50 Most Interesting People, if you catch my drift.

Here's the photo of my group:

Ha-ha. Laugh it up, why don't you.

But seriously, I was a dem small dude back then!

I mean, compared to now, of course.

And that tall guy...he's got, in the words of Frank Butterman from 'Hot Fuzz' : "A GREAT BIG BUSHY BEARD!"

Heh.

BMR: Baking Made Ridiculous.
It's 3 days to my last official mid-semester test paper, and look what the Oblivious Ape decided to do instead of study:

Prrrr-esenting the Oblivious Ape's first foray into making fat-stuffed desserts for the masses: The Jell-O (tm) Oreo Dessert!

Bought me the quick -mix pack and cooked it up in 20 minutes or so. The picture on the box made it look absolutely scrumptious, and damn right it was!

(The missing cup was my doing XP. What...a cook's gotta try what he makes, right?)

The taste is like...think Hershey's Sundae Pie from Burger King.

Only more melty.

And more cookie-ey.

Word of advice: Don't eat the whole pack in one day.

S-s-self-serving bias?
Social Psychology Paper went past like a breeze today. Guess all that hardcore poring through of the notes really paid off. All I'm concerned with now is that Basic Media Research will pass by just the same.

My new glasses are ready. Gonna collect 'em tomorrow at that shop in Parkway Parade. They really give good service there (maybe it's because my mum and aunt were there) but their range of frames is somewhat disappointing. Finally chose on this Levi's frame which cost $192 - the cheapest one there.

My degree of vision still remains as it was a year ago - surprising considering my prolonged laptop use and hours spent on Team Fortress 2. Ah, good times.

Speaking of good times, it's time I actually formally introduce to you my passion that is Bloco Singapura.

The Bloco Family.

Good times.

You notice I never really put up videos of our performances. The reason is simply because videos don't best convey the passion that is in our music. You gotta see up close and in person - only then can you truly understand who we are: the drumming force that is Bloco Singapura.

Sigh.

PERFORMANCES UP YOUR WAZOO!!!!

Okay, guys. Next performance for Bloco Amizade's coming up in just about 14 hours or so. We gonna be trashing the place up with our awesome beats.

The address is right up there on the poster, though you gotta get tickets to enter, which sucks.

Meh. You gotta request for 'em online anyway, in which case don't bother, 'cos it's probably too late by the time you read this.

That's tomorrow's performance.

Now...Sunday's performance...that's when things get a little more interesting.

It's gonna be a night gig. The event's called Tapestry 2008, by the way. Apparently, it's an annual event that's been going on for 7 years running. A lot of acts are gonna be there; though how popular or good they actually are, I can't say.

How do we get there, you ask? Well, according to the official blog, just drop off at Clarke Quay MRT and...you'll see it, I guess. Details are pretty vague. I mean, they don't even have an official poster to speak of. But I do know this: we start at 8.00 pm.

Be there.

More on that 'audio addiction'.
I'm a man of sound.

My whole frickin' life revolves around sound.

And to satisfy my need for quality audio pleasure, I continue my search for the ideal audiophone.

So far, I haven't found it.

But I have found something that will stave off that hunger...for maybe just a few months.

I present to you the SonicGear Ear Pump.

Okay, so I'm not the best product photographer.

I know the image is kind of an anti-climax to its name, but don't be fooled. The bass these babies churn out is something to be reckoned with. I probably didn't need to turn the volume up on my PSP all the way, like I usually do; the sound is loud enough for me even at a lower setting, and for sound quality like the PSP, that's something.

This was the earphone case which came together with the 'phones. Pretty solid; I could probably use this for my X-Mini speakers too, instead of the flimsy pouch it came packed with.

Now, knowing the Teknofreak - the self-proclaimed headphone fetishist, what would have possessed him to blaspheme to earphones?

Well, my current headphones not being compatible to the PSP sound system is one of the reasons. (Screw you, Sony)

The primary reason: I'm saving the money I have so that one day, I might be able to get me one of these off the Net:

Image taken from Skullcandy.com

Say hello to Skullcandy - my dream headphone brand. That model you see up there: that's the Skullcandy G.I. Rasta from their G.I. range of headphones. Just one look at this baby and my addiction broke into little fits of ecstacy. Imma get me one of those someday...although my birthday IS coming...

....*drools*

Skullcandy doesn't just make headphones; they do everything from speaker bags to MP3 watches. Awesome stuff, I must say.

But the thing is, they only retail in the US and Europe...which pretty much sucks. The only way you can get (that I know of) is probably through eBay...and most dealers want payment through PayPal, another thing that sucks. Anyone got a credit card?

You guys can check out their stuff here: Skullcandy!!!

La La La La, Hari hari KERJA!
Courtesy of meetUncleHussain's MySpace page.

Meet my latest audio addiction...

Or, more specifically, Meet Uncle Hussein!

(I came up with that on the fly, actually. LOL.)

Yes, that's right. 'Meet Uncle Hussein' (or 'meetUncleHussain'; both names still sound the same anyway) is probably the closest thing you can get to indie music in Malaysia. Seriously, they're that good. I mean, have you seen any other Malaysian band having had any commentary on my blog?

Their sound reminds me a lot of Electrico, which is one of the reasons why they appeal to me so much. There's a lot of pop/punk rhythms mixed into their often-upbeat tracks, like 'La La La Kerjalah' for example. Other times, you get alternative guitar dominated rhythms like in 'Lagu Untukmu'. Whatever they came up with, I was pleasantly surprised at each and every one so far.

To give you a picture of just how talented they are, they've recently won an award for best upcoming band (I think.) in the Anugerah Planet Muzik 2008. Pretty awesome eh?

Give 'em a listen.

No, I DON'T want to watch 24 hours of badminton.
Right now my television screen is being bombarded with footage from the Olympic Games in Beijing.

And I am without the benefit of cable channels.

Well done, MediaCorp. Way to provide your loyal (if 'loyal' meant 'forced to be') viewers with 'quality' programming.

Hey, you heads at Channel 5:

It ever occurred to you that SOME OF US (read: everyone) AREN'T REALLY IN THE MOOD TO WATCH THE GAMES WHEN WE'VE JUST COME HOME FROM SCHOOL OR WORK???

No?

Well, has it ever occurred to you that we maybe - just maybe - want to sit down in our respective couches and watch a good movie (for once) instead of two numbskulls passing a feathered ball back and forth a giant net?

No?

Really?

Damn...even the 'Yang Sisters' would be more entertaining that this, and THAT'S pushing it.

Wow...I guess that really puts things into perspective.

Oh well.

Of Wet Boxers and Photo Kisses.
And now I present to you the pride and joy of P02 CMM 2008.

Our Lip Dub video to the song of 'That Thing You Do' by The Wonders.

Just a note though: We could only do the whole video in one take (watch the vid and you'll see why.)

And I dare say it was a DAMN GOOD TAKE!

WOOOOOOO!!!

Set Visualisations > Alchemy: RANDOMISATION

Ah, such memories this picture brings. The National Museum...the grand dame looked her best ever that night. This, by the way, is long overdue.

This photo was taken in the corridor of my flat on the floor just above mine. This is no ordinary ant; this big guy measured in at a third of my middle finger...and that's big OKAY. Again, LONG overdue, this pic is.

So my mom and I went to have lunch at Hei Sushi at Downtown East earlier today. I have to say, a halal certificate on the wall of a sushi shop does not diminish its quality whatsoever; I dare say it's the same standard as Sakae Sushi, but that's just me.

For dessert, we had Tempura Ice Cream (that's the one up there). Think Fried Ice Cream, but with a thicker dough covering. I'm still amazed how that got it to stay solid throughout the frying process. It was served with oodles of strawberry syrup...and it was GOOD.

I has mouse...

I can has laptop now?

I thought this would make a good parting pic...for now. It's Justin's cat, by the way. Took it while we were filming Wei Xun's PSA on Alzheimers. Great photo op, this one.

And yeah, I had to. XD
