BLLEEARRGGHHH!!!
THE

APE

DOES

NOT

LIKE

SPRING

CLEANING.

Spring cleaning is like kryptonite to the super primate; it weakens him, debilitates him, ELIMINATES HIS MOJO!!!

....Okay, that didn't come out so well.

Seriously, mops and vacuums are like my mortal enemies, together with stairs, exercise and whathaveyou.

That's right, whathaveyou.

On a totally unrelated note (and I told some people that I would blog about this), there are rumours that the size of one's ears affects one's lifespan.

Now, I can clarify one thing, and that to the best of my knowledge, this rumour...

....still remains a rumour. A myth - an old wives' tale that hasn't been debunked yet. And debunk it I shall!

...right after someone gets...that...danged vacuum away from me...

Of those who wished...
Wanna know what the best part of a birthday is?

It's getting birthday cards like this one:

EH THANKS A LOT EH!

Hahah. Man, you guys are the best.

And to the rest who wished me a happy birthday one way or another (you know who you are; I sure do), don't think I forgot about you. No word of thanks could ever convey the gratitude I feel for actually remembering my day of birth.

But here's a 'thank you' nonetheless. =D

So the day continued without much fanfare; I didn't expect one anyway.

.....

OKAY, so maybe I did. But I gotta be realistic, don't I?

But one thing happened that day which possibly, pretty much scarred me.

My mom forgot my birthday.

EDIT: She apologised. =S

ADACUTAB!!!!
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

THE BUSKING SESSION LAST SUNDAY WAS EEEFFFFFFFFFFFF-ING AWESOME!!!!!!!

WOOOOOOOOOO~

IMHIGHIMHIGHIMHIGHIMHIGH

*knocks blister-ridden thumb on the countertop*

OMGIMINPAININSOMUCHPAINOMGIMHIGHANDINPAINOMG

So you can tell how much I enjoyed the busking session last Sunday.

But before that, we dudes (meaning Me, Praba, Ian and Justin) went to China Square Central for a little window shopping (or should I say, 'whiny' shopping? Heheh, eh? See what I did there?... Oh, you guys are no fun anymore). I don't know each time I go to CSC, I feel like I wanna enjoy the trip, and at the same time it takes so much eff-ing energy to get there PLUS they seem to have a very distinct lack of benches. So I held out for as long as I could, until me and Praba went to get ourselves some nice little spots on the neches inf ront of the Guardian pharmacy.

Needless to say, Ian and Justin enjoyed themselves immensely while they were there. I just couldn't wait to get our sweaty butts down to Dallas Chicken. I still don't know who the hell recommended it, but I expected it to be OPEN when we got there and GUESS WHAT?

It WASN'T.

A hot and sweaty Oblivious Ape does not like closed restaurants.

So, naturally, I was pretty much pissed off. But the dudes managed to survive nonetheless.

Uhuh.

I, on the other hand, was simply looking forward to another AWESOME busking session with the Upbeats, this time in front of the Takashimaya Shopping Centre. (You dudes should have been there!)

Here are some vids of our performances:

This song's titled Adacutab, or Batucada spelled backwards.

This one's called Upbeatable.

This one's titled Afrobeat. Mmhmmm.

LONG LIVE UPBEATS PERCUSSION!

Enjoy.

Oh, and before I go, I'd like to extend an EXTREMELY BELATED BIRTHDAY WISH TO ONE AWESOME DUDE:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONSIEUR JUSTIN MARK NG!!!

(Or should I say, Justin 'Mambo' Ng, eh? Heheh, eh? See? See how I did that again?)

Cha-ching!
Hoo boy...

It's been an eventful past few days.

First off, WE BUSKED FOR THE FIRST TIME YESTERDAY!!!

UPBEATS PERCUSSION!!!

BUSKING AT TAMPINES INTERCHANGE!!!

WOOO!!!

Take it from me; the feeling that comes with busking is indescribable. You know your music's reaching people when more of them come to your spot by the minute!

We started off kinda shaky, probably because some of us hadn't familiarised ourselves with the new arrangement yet - and probably because it was OUR FIRST DAMN TIME BUSKING!!!

WOOO!!!

But once we got into the swing of things, nothing could stop us - we were giving life to our pieces and instruments by stylizing our playing, performing impromptu more that anything else. It was AWESOME.

Although I did say 'nothing' could stop us, there was one thing that probably affected our performance - or maybe it's just 'me' rather than 'our' - and that was stamina. Tell me, how DO you keep up the energy in a percussion performance for more that 4 hours?

And it didn't help that losing my grip on the mallets. Sorry. =P

*cue 19th-century British accent*

Oh, I do hope we can do this again sometime soon.

Oh oh me and my mom looked around for a new phone for me after dinner just now. Turns out the phone I want (Yes, kids. It's a 'want', not a 'need'.) costs 628 big ones without a contract. DAMN YOU SONY ERICSSON!

So here's the situation with me and my current phone:

I bought my K800i for the 3.2 megapixel camera, which was a BIG DEAL back then for a phone to have.

After prolonged use, the joystick began to degrade and malfunction.

Since the joystick was the primary (and pretty much ONLY) mode of navigation for the phone, this kinda SUCKED.

So I pretty much require a new phone.

My contract only ends next year.

SO the only way for me to get a new phone is to get one without the benefit of a contract promotional price, which is pretty expensive, as I would have mentioned earlier.

Anybody care to sponsor 400 bucks? It -is- my birthday next week.

Oh, you didn't know?

Oh.

Well, it's okay.

I guess.

My mobile life sucks.

Tu Maraca, Tu Maraca TU!
It's official.

MARACATU MONDAY IS AWESOME.

Or rather, was, seeing as how it was held yesterday (Edit: TWO days ago. =S).

SO...Maracatu Monday was a one-day maracatu percussion workshop organized by our very own Wicked Aura Batucada, featuring Mr Jeff Duneman of Maracatu NY. News of the event was spread through Facebook and, thanks to Izzat, I was persuaded to attend said workshop.

Apparently, Maracatu's a way more complicated form of percussion than your typical samba percussion. There's like a lot of off-beats involved, with the grooves being more lengthy and plenty in between. Oh oh, and they actually hold the sticks differently in Maracatu than they would in Samba; for the surdos, at least. The left-hand mallet, or a normal stick as they would usually use, is typically held like how a snare player would his left-hand drumstick. The result is a super cool playing technique and an awesome visual spectacle.

All in all, I'd say we had major fun that day.

AND I WANT TO USE THE WICKED AURA SURDOS AGAIN!!! =(

Hafeez "Procrastination" Zainalabidin...?
Hmm... maybe I shouldn't keep telling people that 'procrastination' is my middle name.

Hafeez P. Zainalabidin.

Doesn't quite have that ring to it.

Maybe a middle name isn't the best of ideas.

I guess I'll file this one under the 'Not-so-bright Ideas' section of my brain. Hmmm...it's getting pretty crowded in there.

Hokay, time for an update on the life of the Oblivious Ape.

  1. I lost my Levi's glasses on the day we had our busking auditions. Yeah, I know. I'm beating myself up over it too. Luckily, my mom was in a pretty good mood that day, so I'm off the hook...for now. Of course, I'll pay her back with the busking moolah I'll get.
  2. Speaking of busking; if all goes well and we get our license on Friday, we'll probably have our first busking session on Saturday at Tampines MRT station. Yeah. You BETTER catch us there. =D (EDIT: We ain't busking yet. We only get our license on Monday. Whooptie doo.)
  3. We received our overall subject grades today... I'm actually pretty satisfied. You probably can't see it but... (that's your cue to do yourself a favour and click on the picture to enlarge) here, have a look:
All's pretty good (except for Basic Media Research...Curse you, Module of Inevitable Doom!)

Finally, things are looking up for my CGPA! Woot!

I'm walking on sunshine...Woah Oh!

And don't it feel good! YEAH!

Hostages and Pseudo-humping
Ach!

Procrastination fever takes OVAAAAA!!!

WOOOO DELIRIUM!!!

(I apologise for the lack of a better title. =P )

Sorry for the lack of updates, people (or what little number of you who actually bother to visit this little nook of the Internet).

Recently, there has been a lack of events to actually blog about, pretty much 'cos I'm stuck at home for most of the time.

Overbearing mum, or over-sized Gluteus Maximus?

I'd rather you don't decide.

On the bright side, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops has taken up pretty much all of my time these days. Yes, it's an old game, and I regret that it took me this long to realize that. IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT, IMRAN! YOU MADE ME A METAL GEAR ADDICT! Now I can't help but pore over every single bit of Metal Gear fiction; it's amazing how one man can come with a whole conspiracy theory and its history that spans over 50 years! Hideo Kojima, I think some kudos from the Oblivious Ape is in order.

Got Snake? =P
