Hoo boy, it's been a hell of a week.
4 days of updates people!
Thursday
Zat, Suzie and I designated Thursday night as bowling night. So when he didn't show up last week, we were pretty pissed. Tapi takpe lah, we understand that you were handling the whole wedding thing for your sister. THIS WEEK JANGAN LUPA NAK DATANG! XD
So the both of us caught a movie instead. October was a bad season for movies, so we didn't have many to choose from at the Cathay Cineplex at eHub. In the end, it was a toss-up between horror/thriller flick The Coffin, or practically-unknown-flick Lakeview Terrace. Since Samuel L. Jackson was on the poster, we gave it a chance. Big mistake.
Suffice to say, the movie was a big flop. It tries too hard to deliver a convincing storyline, and when it ends, it leaves you with that sense of 'What-the-fuck?' sitting deep in the pit of your stomach. In Suzie's words, "I can tell you the whole story in a sentence. A grumpy black cop who goes nuts in getting rid of a black and white couple just because of a stereotype." Stay away from this one, folks.
Friday
I ended up going to the rehearsal for Zat's sister's wedding alone, 'cos the girls got tickets to Avenue Q (NOOOO!!!! ....*sniffle*) and Shafiq had something on at home. Although the rehearsal itself wasn't much of a rehearsal to begin with, we did gain something out of it.
A NEW SONG!!!
Yeyeh, Upbeats ada lagu baru...
Now things are looking just awesome. I don't know where this is coming from; it's like an overwhelming wave of positivity. I just know Upbeats Percussion is the best thing that has happened to me since Bloco Singapura.
And to think it all just started with a djembe beat Ramli showed us.Now all we need is a name for it...
Saturday
The first day of the wedding ceremony, and its the Upbeats that are up for their feature performance.
The whole wedding set-up was FRICKIN' AWESOME. I haven't been to many weddings myself, but this one's the best I've seen so far. They opted for a kind of classy/noir style, with tons of drapery and rose stalks in between. The pelamin (wedding dais, I think?) - ah, the pelamin...what a grand affair it was. Fit for a king and queen, and with excellent ventilation! Very important, ventilation.
And and, after our whole performance, we did something UNTHINKABLE.
The whole lot of us did the frickin' CONGA to Gloria Estefan's Conga around the wedding area, after which we proceeded to MOSH along to various Latin Groove songs in FRONT of the pelamin and the newly-wedded couple
MOSH, mind you.
Freaky night, that one.
Sunday
The Upbeats collaborated with VIP and Dhuaza Batucada on the second day, playing the good ol' Bloco songs we used to play together. The atmosphere was pretty much the same as the day before. Fizah's surdo broke that day, and now it's sitting in my house. I wonder why...
Arrived home dead tired, as USUAL.
But it was oh so worth it. XD
