There it is, I coined a new term.
Ambush shopping:
Used to describe occasions where one gets suddenly approached and persuaded by a salesperson in a shopping mall to buy a certain product.
It just so happened that when me and my mum were on our way home today from eHub at Downtown East after a whole day of shopping and a movie, we got ambushed by this salesperson from the row of shops that were along the original Downtown East. My mum pushed her away at first, and as I was trailing behind her, I did the same.
Then this saleslady called me back saying "Dik, dik, mari skejap! Sini skejap!" Translated, it means, "Child, come here awhile!" I could have just walked away and not give a fuck, but my curious side refused to let my legs move. So there I was, a sitting duck for a seemingly irresistable deal she was about to offer.
And then she started to put a dollop of this cream called 'Dempo Snow' on my arm.
Right there, in the middle of a shopping mall.
And right there, I was officially trapped in the clutches of some extremely persuasive salespeople. Before I knew what was going on, I was gagged, hogtied and strung up like some roasted chicken in the display of a chicken rice stall.
Apparently, they were peddling some kind of exfoliating cream that had a guarantee of working on any skin type. So another guy comes up to me and starts spreading this cream all over my left forearm, which felt kinda weird really; having another man spread cream on your arm. But that's beside the point. =P
So he's telling my mother all about this cream; how it's made with natural ingredients and can help lighten my skin's dark areas (For those of you who don't know, I've got eczema), in this mixed Malay-Indonesian accent. And I tell you, Indonesian merchants can be some of the most persuasive salespeople in the world, right next to Indians and Arabs. They leave no room for error or compromise, because it is they who make the compromises for you. In fact, they think of everything for you, even before you do! If you were thinking about asking him for a discounted deal, he's already there offering it to you. It's like they're telepathic! Freaky, I know.
It seemed like this guy was the real deal (my skin did exfoliate and look somewhat lighter than before), aside from the fact that he was offering the cream at like 15 bucks per 50g tub. But he did give us an extremely irresistable offer; it was a tub for $15 and 3 for $45, and he gave us 3+1 tubs for $45. In the end, he decided to give us another 3-pack, so on the whole we bought 7 tubs for $60 when the usual price would have been $105.
We got ambushed, with a good deal! I'm still in shock.
Lol.
Oh, and I finally got my high cut skate shoes~
They're kinda 'bling' for my taste, but I guess I could get used to that. Hurrah for good shopping deals!
